This enormous festival draws a large crowd every year as people wish peace to those who passed in the Nagaoka air-raids, the Chuetsu Earthquake and Chuetsu-oki Earthquake, and pray for world peace. During the day traditional and modern dances, taiko drums and other music perform on stages, in concerts and parades. When night falls lanterns are floated down the river and fireworks light up the sky in one of the three Japanese largest fireworks displays. The fireworks display ends with the Phoenix Firework in a beautiful must-see display.
