Sawara no Taisai Summer Festival
A huge festival which has roots dating back 300 years, the Sawara no Taisai Summer festival is the annual festival of Yasaka-jinja Shrine. Against the beautiful sounds of Sawara hayashi music, one of the top three hayashi music varieties in Japan, 10 traditional festival floats covered in stately carvings parading through the city streets of the Honjuku area makes for a stunning sight. During the festival, drinks and local specialty products are sold and a variety of events are held, enlivening the area.
