Yamagata Hanagasa Festival

Teams of dancers perform elegant dances to traditional ballads and cheerful calls while waving hanagasa flower hats adorned with safflowers, the prefectural flower of Yamagata. Groups consisting of local neighborhood association members, led by gorgeous parade floats and wearing matching costumes, dance in uniform, creating a stunning sight. Each year over 10,000 dancers participate in this Yamagata summer tradition.
