Ohara Naked Festival

Event

Held since the Edo period, this festival is considered the most stirring in Kanto. The area comes together as gallant men carry portable shrines through the city streets. Be sure to catch the ceremony in which the shrines are brought out into the tide together to pray for bountiful harvests and catches, as well as the closing event in which the shrines are raised high into the air against the light of paper lanterns at night.
