Hirosaki Neputa Festival

Some 80 gorgeous neputa illuminated sculptures are drawn through the city streets to cries of yayado!, a summer tradition in Hirosaki. Stunning kumi-neputa are 3D depictions of famous characters and scenes, while ogi-neputa resemble folding fans in their shape and are decorated with images of gallant warriors on the front and beautiful women on the back. Cute kingyo-neputa are modeled after Tsugaru-nishiki goldfish and are carried by children.
