Kushiro Tairyo Donpaku Fireworks (釧路大漁どんぱく花火大会)
This fireworks display, the largest one on the island of Hokkaido, takes place in the city of Kushiro. The program features overwhelming sanjakudama (36 inch shells) bursts that must be seen to be believed, along with the sight of a 150-meter waterfall and a quick succession of starmines, all reflected in the surface of the Kushiro River. The overall effect turns the early autumn sky into a fantasyland.

Hokkaido Areas

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
