Chichibu Kawase Festival Fireworks Display秩父川瀬祭花火大会

Event

This fireworks display marks the first day of Chichibu Shrine's Yomatsuri Festival, one of Japan's three main float festivals, along with the Kyoto Gion Festival and the Hida Takayama Festival. Over 1,000 fireworks, including shakudama (12 inch shells) and elaborate multi-shot starmines, make the festival even more exhilarating. Visitors take in the enormous bursts illuminating the dark night sky without the intrusion of street or building lights like in the city.

Eclipsed by neighboring Tokyo, Saitama is often branded as the sleepy suburbs. However, look a little deeper and you’ll uncover quaint towns bursting with history and crafts from the kurazukuri Edo-period clay houses of Kawagoe to the ancient tree-enveloped temples of Chichibu.
