Kumagaya Fireworks Festival
The historic Kumagaya Fireworks Festival in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture got its start in 1934. It was suspended during WWII but has been held annually since its revival in 1948. It is the largest display in the Kanto region with about 10,000 fireworks. Highlights include a Starmine Competition where pyrotechnicians test their skills, and bursts known as fire writing that deliver messages of celebration for important occasions like marriages and birthdays.
