Mt. Yakurai
Locally known as the “Kami Fuji,” this 553 meter tall mountain is located in the center of Kami Town, Kami County, Miyagi Prefecture. There is a 1.5 kilometer trail leading to the top of the mountain which takes approximately 45 minutes to walk one way. A row of some 300 cherry trees have been planted along a 500 meter stretch of the trail, creating a lovely sight. Large numbers of visitors seeking to enjoy flower viewing come to the area during peak blooming season from mid-April to early May. The cherry trees on the mountain come into bloom gradually, starting at the base and eventually reaching the top, ensuring that cherry blossoms can be enjoyed here for a relatively long period of time. Parking available.
