Usuzumi Park
This park is located in Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture, and is famous for its grand sakura—Usuzumi-zakura—estimated to be over 1,500 years old, and said to be planted by Emperor Keitai. The bulb is a light red color, which turns white upon full bloom, and then pale charcoal upon falling. It is a variety of Higan cherry and is a nationally-designated Natural Monument. The thick trunk and widely spreading branches present an elegant and powerful image. Best seen from early to mid-April, when the flowers are illuminated at night, creating a mystical view where the flowers seem to float in the shadows. Toilets, shops and paid parking available.
