Shiroyama Park (城山公園(神奈川県))
Shiroyama Park is a park centered round a former castle site in Ayase City, Kanagawa Prefecture. According to tradition, the castle was the residence of Shibuya Shigekuni, a vassal of Minamoto no Yoritomo. Inside the moat and earthworks of the former castle, there is a plaza with a roller slide and a barbecue area, along with flower gardens, etc., making this a popular place for local residents to come and relax. From late March to early April each year, when the Yoshino and hill cherry trees are in flower, large numbers of visitors come to Shiroyama Park to view the cherry blossom. One cherry tree in particular, which is located in the Cherry Tree Plaza, has been selected for inclusion among the “Top 100 Most Beautiful Flowers in Kanagawa Prefecture,” and is well worth seeing. Toilets and parking available.

Kanagawa Areas

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
