Matsukawa Park
Matsukawa Park is a riverside park situated along the banks of the Matsukawa River that flows through Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture. The Park has been selected for inclusion in Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. A row of approximately 470 Yoshino cherry trees extends along the riverbank for a distance of three kilometers; this is famous as a lively spot for viewing cherry blossom, both during the daytime and in the evening. Many visitors choose to admire the cherry blossom while strolling along a path that is lined with 28 sculptures, or from one of the pleasure boats that travel along the Matsukawa River. In early April, when the cherry trees are in full bloom, the trees are illuminated in the evening, and a “National Chindon Competition” is held (Chindon’ya are brightly-dressed musicians playing in the street for advertising purposes). The pleasure boats operate from 9:30 to 17:00 on weekdays and from 9:00 to 17:30 on Saturdays and Sundays (please note that tickets must be purchased); trips may be cancelled in the event of rain. Toilets, shops, and paid parking available.
