Hirokawa-dera Temple (弘川寺)
A Buddhist temple situated at the foot of Mt. Katsuragi in Kanan Town, Minamikawachi County, Osaka Prefecture. The temple is famous as the location where late Heian period poet Saigyo passed away. The temple grounds and surrounding area are also a renowned cherry blossom viewing destination, and in spring, Yoshino cherries, double-flowered cherries, weeping cherries, and numerous other varieties of cherry trees come into bloom here. Particularly famous cherry trees on the grounds include “Kaido,” a 350 years old tree designated a Natural Monument standing in the Honbo-teien garden; and the “Suya-zakura,” which can be found near the Goma-do hall. Most years, the best time to view the park’s blossoms is from early to late April, and during this time the park is visited by great numbers of flower blossom-seekers. Entry to the Honbo-teien garden and Saigyo Memorial Museum costs 500 yen for adults, 200 yen for children. Free parking available.
