Ashino Park
Ashino Park is a nature park which has an open area with a lake in the center. It is one of the best cherry blossom viewing sites on the Tsugaru Peninsula where about 1,500 cherry blossom trees including Yoshino cherries, weeping cherries and Sato-zakura cherries bloom in profusion in spring. It has been also selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, and an aesthetic landscape is created with old pine trees and cherry blossoms weeping on the lake surface. The surroundings of Ashinokoen Station on the Tsugaru Railway Line, which goes through the park, has many visitors who wish to take pictures of trains and the station covered with cherry blossoms. During the Kanagi Sakura Festival from late April to early May, it has stage performances such as Tsugaru shamisen (a traditional Japanese instrument) and local folk performances, there are fireworks, and the cherry blossoms are illuminated. Shops and toilets available. A parking fee applies during the festival.
