Katsuyama Park (勝山公園(小倉城))
A park built around Kokura Castle. Park facilities include a spacious natural grass lawn, a stage floating on a river flowing beside the park, and a playground area for children. Kokura Castle is also a renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing, and some 300 Yoshino and Yoko cherries grow in its vicinity. The pale pink blossoms of the cherry trees in spring shine against the castle’s white walls and stone base, creating elegant scenery. During the peak blooming period from late March to early April, the cherry trees are illuminated until 22:00 by paper lanterns, and the park bustles with visitors come to enjoy nighttime flower viewing. The Kokura Castle Cherry Blossom Festival is also held for two days when the cherries are in full bloom. The area around the castle tower is open from 6:00 to 18:30 (when the cherries are illuminated at night, until 22:00). Toilets and nearby paid parking available.
