Lake Okutama
An artificial reservoir straddling Okutama Town in Nishitama County, Tokyo and Tabayama Village in Kitatsuru County, Yamanashi Prefecture. The reservoir holds 180 million tons of water and supplies around 20% of the water used by the citizens of Tokyo. In fall, the colorful leaves on the surrounding trees reflecting off the cobalt blue of the lake water create a picturesque scene. The view of the contrast between the water and fall foliage from the walking path and nearby parking area is one of the most beautiful autumn scenes in Tokyo. Lake Okutama is an oasis in the metropolis that is Tokyo, a place where visitors can take in the seasons, including cherry blossoms in spring, fresh verdure in summer, autumn foliage in fall, and snowscapes in winter.
