Nishiyama Park
A park with a long history extending back to the Kyoyokei, a garden created in the late Edo period by Manabe Akikatsu, lord of Sabae Domain and former member of the shogun's council or elders, to serve as a space for relaxing and refreshment for the people under his rule. In 2006, the park was selected as one of the 100 Japan's top historic parks. Some 1,600 Japanese maples grow on the parks grounds, and Nishiyama Park is a renowned destination for enjoying fall foliage. The park bustles with people in mid-November each year during the Maple Festival.
