Tokachi Take Onsen
Located in the highest area in Hokkaido, this hot spring is also often used as a base for climbing Mt. Tokachidake, a mountain which rises to over 2,000 meters above sea level. Mt. Tokachidake is also an active volcano, but visitors can still enjoy casual mountain climbing here, and the mountain is particularly renowned for the beauty of its fall foliage. The district has two springs-colorless Spring No. 1 and reddish-brown Spring No. 2. Spring No. 1 is an acidic iron-containing aluminum calcium sulfate spring. Its waters contain melanterite, a powerful antibacterial substance, and its waters are said to treat cuts, skin diseases, and athlete's foot. Spring No. 2 is a calcium sodium sulfate spring, and its waters are said and its waters contain substances said to have a calming effect in addition to treating high blood pressure and rheumatism.
