Yuba Onsen
First developed in the Heian period, this hot spring wells forth from the ground at the site of what was once Tatsunokuchi Castle. Located a 15 minute drive from Okayama Station, itself an area which retains much of its old castle town atmosphere, this curative spring was once exclusively used by the chief advisor to the Emperor. In the Kamakura period, the spring was opened to the general public by the monk Chogen. The radium spring generates an abundant flow and its piping hot waters are said to be effective for general indication and treat atopic dermatitis, psoriasis vulgaris, chronic eczema, and skin suppuration. The city of Okayama is known for its abundant natural beauty, its history, and its fruit. Visitors can enjoy seasonal fruit picking in the area as well as visit an abundant array of sightseeing destinations, including the Okayama Korakuen, a garden created some 300 years ago by Ikeda Tsunamasa, the second lord of Okayama Domain, and a now a designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty; Kibitsu-jinja Shrine, the Saijo Inari-san Myokyoji Temple, and Okayama Castle.
