Oyasu Valley Onsen
This hot spring village is located 30 minutes away from Kurikoma, known as the south entranceway to Akita Prefecture. The village follows a ravine carved out by a river and is surrounded by tranquil natural beauty. The area's 11 lodging facilities span everything from elegant Japanese-style hot spring inns to simple and casual inns, with its facility having its own unique character. There are also public bathhouse and day trip bathhouse facilities in the area. The Oyasukyo Gorge from which this district takes its name boasts stunning, steep-walled cliffs and scenic locations where natural hot springs burst forth from the ground. The area sees particularly many visitors during the fall foliage season. The village also adjoins Inaniwa, known as the birthplace of Inaniwa udon noodles, one of Japan's three major udon noodle varieties, so is sure to try some of these tasty noodles during your stay.
