This craft shop, facing the Important Cultural Property-designated Kusano Honke, primarily sells handmade Japanese dorei pottery bells. Dorei bells are a craft which have been widely used since ancient times because they are said to ward away evil and misfortune. The shop's hina doll bells are particularly recommended and are crafted by covering an unpainted pottery bell with handmade Japanese washi paper and painting it with a face and clothing using traditional black ink. Other products the shop sells include dorei bells modeled after the animals of the Chinese zodiac, and clay ohajiki pieces decorated with colorful flowers used to play a traditional Japanese children's game of the same name. The shop is also a great place to look for souvenirs of your trip.

日田市の豆田町は、古い町並みが魅力の素敵な町です。私たちは、豆田町の北を流れる花月川に架かる御幸橋を渡って御幸通りを南に向かいました。素敵な街並みを見ながらのんびり歩いていると、古い町家風の建物があって、その中に、こちらのお店、東光堂がありました。東光堂は、素朴でかわいい土鈴がたくさん並んでいるお店でした。お店番は奥様で、並んでいる土鈴などの作者はご主人なんだそうです。素敵などれいたちの中か...

東光堂は、古い町並みが素敵な日田の豆田町にある土鈴の店です。レトロな建物の中に入ると、かわいらしい土鈴がたくさん並んでいました。こちらの土鈴は、素焼きの土鈴に手すき和紙を張って一つ一つ絵付けしたものだそうです。見ているだけでも気持ちが安らぐような優しさが感じられる土鈴たちの中から、妻がお気に入りを見つけました。今は、我が家の小物たちの仲間に加わっています。

大小さまざまな動物の土鈴を売っています。なんともかわいらしい動物たちです。置物としてひとつ買って帰りました。お店の方から、鈴は場を清める力があると伺いました。鳴らしてみると、とてもきれいな透き通った音がします。
