Sogen-ji Temple

This Buddhist temple is a 15-minute drive from the Mobara-Chonan Interchange on the Ken-O Expressway. Established in 1276, the temple is one of the 39 head temples of Nichiren Buddhism and is the source of the name of the city of Mobara. The temple's 25-meter-tall, two story pagoda-style main gate is seen as a symbol of Mobara City. Each year in February the temple holds a Setsubun celebration bean-throwing ritual in which men and women born under the Chinese zodiac sign of the year scatter dried beans from a stage erected in front of the main temple building, and many visitors from across the city and beyond visit the temple during this time.

むむむ…この山門は

笠森寺を後にして茂原市にある「藻原寺」にやって来ました。このお寺、白壁のコンクリート製多宝塔形式の山門（仁王門）が有名です。実際に見てみると、あれ？！どっかで見たことあるぞ…、あっ、武雄温泉の楼門といっしょだ！。などと思いながら、駐車場はないので参道脇に車を停めてお参りします。境内は結構広く、本堂も立派ではありますが、やっぱり見どころは、武雄温泉風の山門でした。

茂原公園の隣にあります。遠方からも見える「山門(戒壇塚)」の姿が、とても印象的です。なぜだか分かりませんが、中国の寺院建築に似ている印象を感じました。

初めて見ましが、山門が個性的な立派なお寺です大きな茂原公園に隣接していますので、比較的家族連れの方が多かった印象です。
