Sakoshi

Sakoshi is a port town in eastern Ako City on the shores of Sakoshi Bay. The area is blessed with an excellent natural environment that includes the virgin forests of Ikishima Island and the clear streams of the Chikusa River. Even now, Sakoshi retains an old townscape with the look of a port town of yesteryear. Unlike many of the towns in the Setouchi Region that developed along the shore, Sakoshi is notable for having developed along Daido, the avenue that connected the Chikusa River and Sakoshi Port. The avenue, which linked the Chikusa River's network of flatboats to the quiet Seto Inland Sea's network of large cargo vessels, is a clue of Sakoshi's history as a major logistical hub.
