Sumoto Artisan Square
This commercial complex was established in order to promote local industry, create new industries, and introduce people to arts and crafts. Opened as a symbol of Sumoto City in the 1990s, the complex' red brick buildings are occupied by restaurants, cafes, and local specialty product shops. The complex' group of old-fashioned buildings were built as the Kanebo Sumoto Factory, which flourished as a center of industry in Sumoto City between 1909 and 1975. A facility introducing visitors to arts, crafts, and creative activities, the complex serves as a symbol of the city's new center. A monument dedicated to the Dragon Quest video game series on the grounds was erected in honor of Sumoto-born designer Yuji Horii and is a popular photo spot.
