Tegaimon

Historical Monument
This temple gate is located on the west side of the Todaiji temple's Shosoin. Established in the Nara period, the Todaiji temple has lost many of its structures due to war time fires twice in its history, first in 1180 and then in 1567. This gate is one of only a few structures which escaped these fires and, because of its immense historical value revealing what the temple's architecture looked like in the Nara period, it has been designated a National Treasure.
