Mausoleum of Empress Koken (Saki Takatsuka Kofun)

Ruin / Grave / Ancient Tomb
This ancient burial mound is located in Misasagi-cho, Nara City. The 127-meter-long keyhole-shaped tumulus is one of the burial mounds which make up the Sakitatenami Tumulus Group, one of the largest such groups in Japan. The mound is managed by the Imperial Household Agency as the tomb of Empress Koken, the 46th and 48th monarch of Japan (she resumed the throne as emperor after the 47th emperor abdicated).
