Takenouchi Moated Settlment
"The Takenouchi district in Tenri City is one of Japan's ""moated settlements"" encircled by a moat with the aim of warding off invasions from enemies. The Nara Basin is dotted with moated settlement sites dating all the way back to the Muromachi period. Takenouchi is known as the highest such moated settlement, situated at an elevation of around 100 meters above sea level."
