This Buddhist temple is located in 2-Chome Toba, Toba City. The temple was founded in 1607 after Kuki Moritaka remodeled the Daifuku-ji Temple to memorialize the passing of his father, Kuki Yoshitaka. Becoming the family temple of the Kuki clan, its grounds are the location of the graves of successive generations of Kuki clan members. The temple also owns a gong and stone lantern donated by Moritaka. In addition, the temple's inner study also famously accommodated Emperor Meiji when he stopped at Toba during the Satsuma Rebellion.

水軍・九鬼嘉隆の菩提寺

鳥羽駅から徒歩15分ほど。創建年不明。曹洞宗の寺院。1607年に九鬼守隆(鳥羽藩初代藩主)が父・嘉隆を弔うために伽藍を建立し、現寺号に改称。本尊は釈迦如来座像。本堂は木造瓦葺きで1993年に屋根を修復。かつての鬼瓦が鐘楼近くに安置されている。西南戦争の際に明治天皇が奥書院に宿泊されており、境内入口には「明治天皇鳥羽行在所」と彫られた石碑が立てられている。

鳥羽では格式のあるお寺で、明治天皇の行幸の際に御在所に選ばれています。鐘も山門も古いが、本堂は立て直されていました。
