Other Historic Site/Building
This is the villa of Sonoko Sugimoto, a historical author known for works such as Koshu-no-Kishi (Naoki Prize) and Takizawa Bakin (Yoshikawa Eiji Prize). Inside the building, built in 1977, there are primarily works of Ms. Sugimoto, but also works and daily items of literati connected to Atami on display. Ms. Sugimoto was honored with the designation of Honorary Citizen of Atami, the second such person, in 1997. Originally she used this manor as a summer home, but she made it her primary residence in 1980. In the 15 years from that point on, she continued writing in the manor.
