Kawabata Yasunari Literature Monument

Other Historic Site/Building
"This literary monument is located about a 40-minute drive from Shuzenji Station on the Izuhakone Railway on a Tokai Bus and about a five-minute walk from the Suishochishita bus stop. The monument is dedicated to Kawabata Yasunari's novel ""The Dancing Girl of Izu,"" which is set in the Izu Peninsula. The monument inconspicuously stands in a thicket of cedar trees about 300 meters down the Odoriko Line (Old Amagi Pass) past the Amagi Ohashi Bridge. It bears Kawabata's profile in copper relief as well as the famous opening line of the novel, ""About the time the road began to wind and I realized I was finally near Amagi Pass....."" The text was engraved based on the author's own handwriting."
