Gantsuki Tensho Gold Mine

This former gold mine is located about a 50-minute bus ride from Shuzenji Station on the Izuhakone Railway on a Tokai Bus and about a two-minute walk from the Yunokawa bus stop. The mine, which was developed in 1577, has some of the oldest hand-dug mining tunnels in Izu. It is believed that the inclined shafts were an extension of a vertical mine shaft dug during the era of the Gohojo clan. The mine's interior has been preserved largely as it was at the time. Most unusually, a niche representing the deity of the mountain has been carved into an alcove in the innermost reaches of the mine. It is possible to take a guided tour of the mine's interior. After the tour, visitors can experience digging an ore vein by hand using a hammer and rock chisel just like miners did at the time.

入場料は800円に上がっていましたが、良かったです。一人でしたが、嫌な顔もせず、80歳超のおじさんが、杖を突きながら山道を登り、坑道の中を熱心に説明してくれました。坑道内は電灯もあり、手摺もあリます。約30分のツアーでしたが、当時の坑道の状況もよく理解できました。観光化されていない、普段体験できないツアーです。
テーマパーク化していない金鉱

近くの土肥金山と異なり、リアルな金鉱です。600円の入場料で、ものすごく丁寧に解説をしていただきながら見て回ることができ、当時の金をめぐる社会の仕組みや鋳造工程なども理解できて良いと思います。
昔、掘ったのみの跡がリアル。

２０１８年１１月２４日に訪れました。戦国時代発掘した金鉱がそのまま残っているところです。穴を掘るときのノミの跡、金鉱の神を祀ったところなど、見どころがありました。ガイドの方は、お話が上手で、興味深く聴くことができました。市街に近い方に立派な土肥金山の施設がありますが、昔の坑道を見るなら、こちらがお薦めです。
