"This Buddhist sub-temple is located on the grounds of the Engakuji temple in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Built as a mausoleum for Hojo Tokimune, the eighth shogun regent who saved Japan from the Mongolian invasions. Later, shogun regents Hojo Sadatoki and Hojo Takatoki were also laid to rest here. An open base mausoleum with a thatched roof, it enshrines the coffins of Tokimune, Sadatoki, and Takatoki, although the interior may not be freely viewed by visitors. The grounds are also the location of the Ensokuken, a tearoom famous even among the many found in the ancient former capital of Kamakura and also a setting used in Yasunari Kawabata's novel ""Thousand Cranes,"" and here you can enjoy matcha green tea which comes with a Japanese starch confection called rakugan. To view the inside of the Butsunichian, you must pay a separate fee at the Engakuji reception desk."

佛日庵は円覚寺内にあり、その中の開基廟にて、西暦1284年に亡くなられた北条時宗と貞時、高時が祀られています。現在の開基廟は江戸時代の1811年に改築されたとのことです。佛日庵に入るには円覚寺の入場料以外に100円が必要です。静かで厳かな雰囲気がありました。

円覚寺、開基の北条時宗さんの廟所です。ここには中国の作家、魯迅が滞在中に送った「ハクモクレン」の木が大きくそびえています。また、川端康成先生の「千羽鶴」はここを舞台にして書かれています。

この佛日庵は、円覚寺の境内、一番奥にあるお寺です。もちろん臨済宗円覚寺派のお寺ですが、円覚寺の開基である鎌倉幕府８代執権北条時宗が弘安7年（１２８４年）に３４歳の若さで没するのですが、時宗が晩年、庵を結んで禅の修行に励んだ場所に建立されたのがこの霊廟”佛日庵”だそうです。受付で拝観料を払って境内に入ると、すぐ境内のハクモクレンとタイサンボクが目につきますが、私が行った時は、このタイサン...
