Butsuden

Temple
This structure is located on the grounds of the Engakuji temple in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. After the original collapsed in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, it was rebuilt in 1964. Built of reinforced concrete, its design is based on the original plans for the hall dating to 1573. The hall enshrines a statue of Gautama Buddha wearing a diadem, the temple's principal object of worship; the painting of a white dragon on its ceiling was supervised by Nihonga painter Seison Maeda and was painted by Tadashi Moriya. Temple events and a daily dawn zazen meditation session are held in the structure.
