出水駅構内にある観光特産品館飛来里（ひらり）は、お土産品売店の他、観光案内所や、お食事処、休憩所として利用できる複合機能施設です。レンタサイクルを借りて、重伝建の町並みを観光しました。お茶菓子に「菓心いちしめ」さんの丸鶴よもぎを購入。ちょっと変わったかるかん饅頭ですね。生地はもっちり・ねっとり、よもぎ餡のいい香りが口の中に広がります。

ツルで有名な出水駅にある物産館。観光案内所も併設で自転車を借りられる。ただ、ツル観察センターへは距離があるので、シーズン限定の巡回バスが便利。

北薩のちまきは、端午の節句前に、薪灰から採る灰汁に一晩漬けたもち米を、一旦乾燥させた後、水に漬け柔らかくした孟宗竹の皮に包み、紐で結んで大鍋で３-4時間茹でて作ります。中の餅米は搗いた餅のように柔らかく黄金色に仕上がり、保存が効きます。この粽が年中、手軽な価格で入手できます。他地方では見られない薩摩だけの特産で、季節物ですから、年中買えるのは嬉しいです。黄な粉と黒砂糖にまぶして食します。癖になるお...
