Jambo Mochi Shop
This sweets shop is located on the grounds of Sengan-en, the garden of the former villa of the Shimazu clan. Guests can enjoy Sengan-en's specialty, Jambo mochi. These large rice flour dumplings served on two bamboo skewers are said to have been loved by samurai of the Satsuma Domain. The confection is named for its resemblance to a samurai wearing a long sword and a short sword. There are three different glazes to choose from: shoyu (a sweet soy glaze), miso (made with blend of three varieties of miso paste), and kokuto (made with brown sugar from Amami Oshima).
