A historic location located along the Okutone Yukemuri Highway in Sarugakyo Onsen, Minakami Town, Tone County. This is the site of the former Sekisho gate point established by the Edo Shogunate in 1631 to monitor the travel of people and commerce along the Mikuni-Kaido Road. The attached former government housing building now serves as a museum open to the public where materials including old travel permits are on display.

関所と旧役所の跡地

猿ヶ京温泉の入口あたりにあります。上毛高原駅-湯宿温泉経由のバスでも行けます。「関所跡」バス停を降りると目の前です。当時の関所と役宅の跡地を利用して資料館化した施設です。時間の都合で中は見ていないのですが、通りかかったら茅葺屋根の建物だけでも見ておく価値はあると思います。

今年は箱根関所に続いて2個目の関所見学。お話も聞けるらしいですが、時間がなく一通り見ただけです。昔ながらの街中な感じで良かったです。少し散歩しながらあまり近くない駐車場に止めました。有料でしたが、後で知りましたが無料な場所もあるそうです。

国道から猿ヶ京温泉に入る道路脇にある茅葺きの建物。三代将軍家光の時代に設置された猿ヶ京関所及び約宅跡です。江戸と佐渡を結ぶ街道で、行人の監視を行っていたところです。
