Memorial Statue of Ri Sampei
A monument to Ri Sampei, the founder of Arita ware. He discovered Izumiyama porcelain stone and was the first in Japan to use it in making ceramics. It was erected in 1917 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Arita ware. Lots of tourists visit for the great view of the kilns and merchant houses of the town of Arita. The Toso Festival is held annually on May 4th; currently both Korean and Japanese officials attend.
