This art museum that opened in 1954 was the first official museum in Saga Prefecture. The exterior is that of a stone warehouse, and it has a two-story wooden interior. The building itself has been designated as part of the Important National Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings in Arita Uchiyama. It showcases Arita ware dating from the Meiji period to the early Showa period including the work of various kilns and pieces handled by wealthy merchants. Some of these are Important Cultural Properties of Saga Prefecture.

    有田の広い観光客用駐車場がこちらの美術館の隣にあり、有田観光の起点となる美術館です。この美術館の前から、トンバイ塀のある裏通りがはじまります。この美術館の建物も古い石蔵を利用したもので、重要伝統的建造物群保存地区を代表する建物のひとつです。

    有田駅から徒歩で暫く歩いて、陶磁器のお店が並ぶ通りの近くにあります。行ったときは、隣の商工会議所の解体工事で長期休館中でした。残念ですが、また来ることがあれば訪ねたいと思います〇
