Chuka Soba Idehara (中華そばいではら)

This ramen shop is in central Sasaoka City, in Okayama prefecture's southwest. This shop, opened in 2004, has only intimate counter seating, and is marked by the large noren curtain across the entrance on the main street. Their menu includes Chuka Soba ramen in regular and large sizes, and rice only. Their clear broth is soy-sauce flavored with rich chicken stock in it. Their noodles are topped with their symbol sliced stewed kashiwa chicken and scallions. Customers can get a regular size at half-off on their birthday!

Overshadowed by Hiroshima to the west and the Kansai region to the east, Okayama is an easy spot to miss but a nature-rich gem where the Seto Inland Sea laps at its toes and peach and grape farms complete its interior. One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Koraku-en in Okayama city is well worth a visit before progressing to Kurashiki, where preserved wooden Edo buildings line the picturesque canal.
