Former Yonezawa High Technical School Main Building
The historic schoolhouse of the former Yonezawa technical high school (present Yamagata University Faculty of Engineering) was first built in 1910, and was only the 7th technical school of higher education in the country at that time. The main building here, which was also the model for the Yonezawa Station building, is a two-story wood renaissance style construction and is designated as an Important Cultural Property. The interior is open to the public and is an archive library with exhibits for each department of the college, such as the Faculty of Spinning and Weaving, and the Faculty of Dyes. Reservations are required for a tour of the inside.

- すごく素敵な建物、これが学校だったなんて、素晴らしいです。明治時代にこんなに素敵な洋館で学んだら、志も高く、立派な人格が形成されそうで、羨ましいです。しかし、設計された方は日本人と聞き、驚きました。尚、米沢駅舎はこの建物を基にデザインされたそうですね。サミュエルウルマンの青春の碑があり、その場では読まなかったので、後から調べて読んだら、すごく感動しました。ライトアップ用の青い照明が設置さ...

- とても瀟洒な建物でその気品あるたたずまいは感動ものだった。敷地内にはこの建物に関した説明の碑文が建てられている。現在工事中のためか正門の扉は閉じられており敷地の左端から建物の入り口に向かった。しかし校内への入り口は開いていたが係員がいず見学できなかった。
