These safflowers have been grown in the Takase district of Yamagata City since ancient times. They are known for being featured in the anime film “Only Yesterday,” and every year in July during their flowering season the city holds the “Yamagata Safflower Festival” where you can have a go at safflower dyeing and other fun events.
