Toraya
Just a 15-minute walk from the Kotohira Station, this soba and udon restaurant is near the stairway leading up to the Konpira Shrine. Here at the shop, facing the pilgrimage main street, visitors can enjoy the wonderful mellow flavor of their soba and udon. This charming shop is said to have been started in the front desk area of the 400-year-old Toraya Ryokan inn. Throughout the inside of the restaurant are old carvings of tigers, and other artwork. Any of the dishes offered on the menu can be made with your choice of soba noodles or udon noodles. The broth, which is not too rich or too light, combines with the softly chewy noodles to make a delicious blend of flavors. There are many customers who pop in to boost their carb intake before the challenging 785 steps up to the shrine.

- こんぴらさん表参道にあるうどん屋さん。店のおばあちゃんが声をかけてくれたので入りました。値段はかけ300円からと格安です。ただし今時の気合いの入った麺という感じではなく、昔ながらの懐かしい味わいのうどんと言ったところです。建物の趣やら、店の雰囲気を楽しむならいいかもしれません。

- こんぴらさんの石段が始まる場所で目立つ建物だ。もともと約400年前に創業した老舗旅館。たたずまいがいい。唐破風の看板や虎や龍の彫り物などの意匠が凝らされており、とても目を引く。かつては皇室御用達の宿だったというから恐れ入る。メニューは一般的なうどん、そばだ。
