Tsuda no Matsubara (津田の松原)

4.0

Other Sightseeing Spot

This scenic stretch of white sands and green pines has even been selected for inclusion in a list of Japan's 100 Best Beaches. Ancient, 600-year-old pines and visually stunning twisted pines with roots jutting out of the ground extend along a one-kilometer-long length of beach. The area was originally established as a prefectural park called Kinrin Park in 1915, and was later eventually included as part of Setonaikai National Park, known for the fabulous scenery of the Seto Inland Sea. The largest swimming beach in the prefecture, in the summer the popular destination bustles with beach-goers and it sees over 130 thousand visitors annually.

Reviewed:2014/02/15 Must explore the forest!!
Again the water and weather was cold but the forest was beautiful! Lots of history, love the little shrines about the area and the fact that everyone can rake a little bit and help maintain the park.

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
