Tsubaki-yama

Mountain
A scenic destination situated on the northern tip of the Natsudomari Peninsula. The area has been designated a National Natural Monument as the northernmost habitat for camellias in the country. More than 10,000 Japanese camellias grow primarily on the sloping land in the area facing the coast, and visitors can enjoy their red blossoms from late April to early June. Tsubaki Shrine stands amidst the plants, and its grounds encompass many trees 500 to 600 years old with trunks as large as 2.2 meters in circumference. The campground and beach on the Tsubakiyama Coast bustle with visitors in summer.
