Furo-bashi Bridge

Bridge
Located right next to the Furobashi bus stop a 30-minute bus ride from JR Wakayama Station. This stone arch bridge is situated across from Tsushima Shrine and has been designated an Important Cultural Property by Wakayama City. Built in 1851 by Tokugawa Harutomi, lord of Kishu Domain, it was built for the Tokugawa clan when visiting Kishu Toshogu Shrine. In the Edo period, stone arch bridges outside of the Kyushu region were extremely rare; of particular note is the exquisite cloud pattern relief on the railing believed to have been crafted by stonemasons from Yuasa Town.
