Hot Spring / Hot Spring Bath

"This is located in Kii Tanabe, which, according to one tale, is the birthplace of the legendary warrior, Musashibo Benkei. This hot spring facility for day use is a three-minute drive from the Nanki Tanabe Interchange on the Hanwa Expressway via National Route 42, and it is also close to the starting point of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. In addition to large baths and foot baths, there is a ""Hinoki-yu (cypress bath)"", where visitors can enjoy the outdoor air while bathing on a deck surrounded by Kishu Hinoki (cypress trees), a so-called ""Kama-buro (kiln bath)"" that calls to mind the Benkei's first bath, and a ""Tsubo-buro (small tub bath)"" where one person can have a leisurely soak. The water comes from a sodium hydrogen carbonate chloride spring, and it is said to be effective against nerve pain, muscle soreness, and recovery from fatigue."

The setting for many a Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail, Wakayama invites those in search of spirituality from one side of the prefecture to the other, from the 100-plus Buddhist temples of the sacred Mount Koya in the west to the inspiring temples of the Kumano Sanzan set among breathtaking nature in the east.
