This gravestone marks the purported site of the grave of the famous onibaba (demon hag) from the legend of the Onibaba of Adachigahara, well known the noh titled Kurozuka and kabuki performance Adachigahara. The place conveys the shock and sorrow of the story of a wet nurse driven mad by accidentally killing of the princess she had raised as if she was her own daughter. There is currently an embankment near the grave site, so those visiting by car will need to park at the nearby Adachigahara Furusato Village and walk to the site.
