Kishu Binchotan Museum

Reference/Local/Exhibition/Literature Museum
"This facility in Minabe Town located in the middle of Wakayama Prefecture showcases the technology, history and culture surrounding binchotan, a high grade of traditional charcoal. Among the most highly produced charcoals in the nation, local Kishu binchotan has a history that reaches back to the Heian period. The museum has a variety of items on display including a xylophone made of binchotan. They sell the charcoal itself, as well as specialty sweets made with it like their “Sumi-aisu"" ice cream. You can also try making wind chimes and bracelets with binchotan if you book ahead. Local elementary schools sometimes visit for field trips too."
