Ho Park
A public park located in Koen-cho, Nagahama City. The park is located on the site of Nagahama Castle, a castle abandoned in the Edo period; the park’s name is derived from an alternate reading of the first character used to write the name of the mighty samurai lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The Nagahama Castle Historical Museum, modeled after what the castle looked like during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, stands on the park’s grounds; the top of the tower serves as an observatory with a sweeping view of the surrounding area. The park is also a renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing in the spring and has been selected for inclusion in Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots.
