Roadside Station Hana-Kaido Tsukechi道の駅 花街道つけち

Michi no Eki Road Station

Roadside Station Hana-Kaido Tsukechi is located in Tsukechi-cho in the city of Nakatsugawa in Gifu Prefecture. It serves as a base for exploring the Tsukechi Gorge and offers a wide variety of facilities. The shop, where agricultural products produced by local farmers and local souvenirs are sold, is built with pillars made of natural hinoki cypress about 300 years old, and it has a high-ceilinged atrium. Everything around is built with cypress wood, making for comfortable, soothing spaces imbued with the scent of cypress. There is a food cart village composed of six food carts, the Rakuichi-Rakuza building which contains clothing and flower shops, and other special products that indicate how much effort this roadside station is putting into PR. The foot bath, fed by water brought daily from the Tsukechi-kyo Kuraya Onsen, is available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Tucked away in the very center of Japan, Gifu prefecture houses mountains, old towns, and one of Japan’s greatest hot springs, Gero Onsen. A tour of the prefecture’s traditional architecture will take you from the mountain-enveloped wooden streets of Takayama to the mountain village of Shirakawago, where visitors can explore 250-year-old thatched roofed houses known as gassho-zukuri.
